5. Writing- This will be our last persuasive paragraph. This week you are writing to persuade your reader to agree with your opinion about bicycle helmets. 4. Simile and Metaphors: We will begin our brief study of figurative language by covering the standard from ELA that says that you will be able to distinguish between a simile and a metaphor. Please complete the worksheet below titled, "Simile and Metaphor." I have also included a PDF of a dice game with similes and metaphors. This is just for fun. 5. Writing- We continue with Persuasive (Opinion) writing this week. I've added a video on conclusions. This week, the prompt is "We have so many genres of music in the United States that we can listen to and enjoy. What genre do you think is best? Country? Pop? Classical? Rap? 3. Language- Complete the assignment "Context Clues" in MobyMax. The program will send me a message when you complete it. Our MobyMax language contest runs through April 30th. Winners will be announced on May 1st.
4. Sharks!- This week's informational text comprehension practice is all about SHARKS! The PDF below has all the information and the last two pages is the comprehension practice. Again, you don't have to print...read the text on your screen and then answer the questions on separate paper.
5. Writing- we are working with persuasive writing. I loved reading your paragraphs on your opinion of cell phones in schools! This week, we are going to use our organizer called, OREO (Opinion, Reason, Explain, Opinion) I've included some YOUTUBE videos to help support your understanding. The prompt this week is, "Which season is the best in Michigan; Summer, Fall, Winter or Spring?" Use the organizer to organize your thoughts and to make sure you are including reasons and explanations of why that is your opinion. You can type your paragraph into a Word document in Office 365 and then send it to me OR you can hand write it, take a picture, and send it to me. My opinion is that Fall is the best season in Michigan, so I can't wait to hear what you all think!
Social Studies 1. Go onto studiesweekly.com and learn about WEEK 14. When you're done complete the test within the website. The program will send me a message when you are done.
2. Last week, I gave you the link to a video on Discovery Education about the Boston Tea Party, one of the causes of the war. This week, it is a video on the Boston Massacre. This video looks to prove what REALLY happened that night in Boston. Who shot first? Was it a massacre or self-defense? Watch the video and think about the following questions: 1)What do you think really happened? 2) Was there one side to blame? 3) Which side do you think you would have been on had you been alive back then? Week of April 20, 2020 ELA 1. Read Chapters 13-14 of Sign of the Beaver (PDF below) or you can use the Youtube video to read along with the teacher as she is reading aloud the two chapters. Answer comprehension questions for Chapters 13-14. (In the PDF there is questions for Chapter 12. You do not have to do those.) You may write your answers on a separate sheet of paper, take a picture, and email me the picture or send it in a REMIND message.

3. What is a Lichen? informational text article. Read the article and answer the five questions. You can email me answers to the 5 questions or again, you can take a picture of your answers and email it to me or send it in a REMIND.
4. MobyMax-Language. Our contest continues until April 30th. I have assigned you a lesson in Language called, "Revising Sentences." It will automatically report to me when you have completed the lesson.
5. Writing- We are beginning our unit on Persuasive (opinion) writing. For this week, I would like to just get a 'baseline' of your knowledge so far on what makes a good persuasive paper. So, write a one paragraph response to the prompt, "Should students be allowed to use their cellphones in school?" This is a complete/incomplete type of assignment. I want to see what you can do! You can use a Microsoft Word document on Office 365 and email it to me.
Social Studies
1. Log into Socialstudiesweekly.com and click on Week 13, "Mounting Tensions." Complete the test at the end of your learning. The website will send me a completed message when you are done.
Your username/password has been sent to you in an email in your "Group email." There is no task for the movie. It just reinforces one of the major events, the Boston Tea Party.
